Airties and Domos Form Strategic Alliance to Provide Enhanced Latency Management to Broadband Service Providers

Airties and Domos Form Strategic Alliance to Provide Enhanced Latency Management to Broadband Service Providers

Partnerships

– Domos to contribute latency monitoring software module to joint development partnership with Airties

– Airties to integrate the Domos Network X-ray agent and make it available across its customer footprint

Paris, France and Oslo, Norway – September 7th, 2023Airties, a global leader of managed Wi-Fi solutions for broadband service providers, and Domos, a global leader in end-to-end latency management and service assurance, today announced a strategic alliance to provide enhanced latency management capabilities to broadband service providers around the world.

Specifically, Airties and Domos will jointly own the latency monitoring software module, based on Domos’ existing module, and will be embedded into Airties Smart Wi-Fi software. Additionally, Domos will gain access to Airties’ extensive customer base to expand distribution of its Network X-ray agent through integration with Airties Smart Wi-Fi solutions. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Domos’ technology, integrated into our Smart Wi-Fi software, will enable us to better monitor and address latency challenges across devices via real-time network optimizations and application prioritization.

Metin Taskin, Co-CEO and founder of Airties

“At Airties, our aim is to help broadband service providers improve their subscribers’ quality of experience (QoE) and reduce customer support costs by proactively fixing home network issues,” said Metin Taskin, Co-CEO and founder of Airties. “This new strategic alliance with Domos enables us to do that even better by bringing their complementary expertise into our portfolio. Domos’ technology, integrated into our Smart Wi-Fi software, will enable us to better monitor and address latency challenges across devices via real-time network optimizations and application prioritization.”

Given Airties’ market leadership in Managed Wi-Fi, we can now help a large and growing footprint of broadband service providers around the world make their networks truly application aware.

Olav Nedrelid, CEO and co-founder of Domos

“We are excited about this new strategic alliance with Airties to help address the persistent challenge of latency facing application developers and internet users around the world,” said Olav Nedrelid, CEO and co-founder of Domos. “With the exponential growth in video conferencing, streaming, gaming, and other applications where the impact of latency is significant, it is becoming the key metric to measure and address application outcomes and end user experiences. Given Airties’ market leadership in Managed Wi-Fi, we can now help a large and growing footprint of broadband service providers around the world make their networks truly application aware”.

One of the key benefits of Airties’ unique hybrid cloud-edge architecture is reduced latency at the home network level. Key optimization decisions are made via software on the gateway/extender without needing to rely on the time delays, and added cost, of the cloud. This is especially critical for applications like video conferencing, gaming, premium video services, and VR/AR applications, and it is a significant factor why many leading broadband operators have selected Airties. With this new latency capability, Airties will be able to better measure latency at the device and application level and leverage that data as part of Airties’ analytics dashboards and optimization services. Airties plans to offer the new latency monitoring and data analytics as a value-added capability as part of the company’s patented Wi-Fi Experience Index (WFEI).

In parallel, Domos will continue to focus on providing other value-added latency services to customers, including Network X-ray, which provides application centric analytics and root cause analysis across the network, helping broadband service providers adapt their network to each individual application, while also enabling application developers to adapt in real time to the network at hand. With Network X-ray, broadband service providers can specifically identify application outcome issues in the cloud, core or access networks or in the home – where integration with Airties Smart Wi-Fi provides automatic optimizations across the home network.

Airties has been recognized with many prestigious industry awards for its innovative work serving broadband operators, including: “Best Home Wi-Fi Solution Award” from Broadband World Forum; “Best Wi-Fi Service Provider Solution” and “Best Home Wi-Fi Product” awards from Wi-Fi NOW; “Best-In Home Wi-Fi Network” award from Wireless Broadband Alliance; “Best Broadband Customer Experience” from Cable & Satellite International; and many others.

Domos is a long-standing contributor to key industry standardization efforts in Broadband Forum, IETF and IEEE

Airties Contributes Wi-Fi EasyMesh™ Software Controller for RDK Operators and Community

News

New RDK-B Integration with Wi-Fi EasyMesh enables operator-grade capabilities and faster time to market for ISPs

Enables ISPs to seamlessly manage multi-vendor deployments of Wi-Fi gateways and extenders across broadband access technologies including DOCSIS, GPON, and DSL

ISTANBUL, TURKEY – May 9, 2022 –  Airties, a leading supplier of managed Wi-Fi solutions for service providers globally, today announced a significant collaboration with RDK Management to streamline operator-grade Wi-Fi EasyMesh™ deployments. Specifically, Airties contributed its Wi-Fi EasyMesh controller software module, as a new RDK-B component, for use by the RDK community across broadband gateways/routers.

RDK is an open source software platform, deployed on more than 80 million devices worldwide, that standardizes core functions and telemetry used in broadband, video, and IoT connected devices. For broadband devices specifically, RDK-B provides a common platform across broadband access technologies including DOCSIS, GPON, and DSL, with functionality such as routing, Wi-Fi, diagnostics, IoT support, and more.

By further integrating Wi-Fi EasyMesh, developed through Wi-Fi Alliance®, as a standardized communication layer for Wi-Fi gateways and extenders, operators can spend less time on platform integration efforts across OEMs and chipsets, and more time developing value-added managed Wi-Fi services to their subscribers. Airties’ RDK-B component contribution will enable this kind of operator-grade experience. Vendors and operators across the RDK community are now free to deploy their own products using this contributed Wi-Fi EasyMesh controller. Airties will also maintain the component code contribution and future revisions to support the RDK community.

Wi-Fi EasyMesh Whitepaper

“Airties helped solve a genuine need of the RDK community with this software contribution,” said Jason Briggs, President and General Manager of RDK. “Operators want the benefits of Wi-Fi EasyMesh, while retaining the ability to provide an operator-grade managed Wi-Fi service, and this code contribution helps make that possible. We are very pleased to have a proven Wi-Fi innovator like Airties playing such an active role in our community.”

“Since its inception, RDK has dramatically sped up, standardized, and improved core CPE software to benefit operators around the world,” said Philippe Alcaras, CEO of Airties. “Our team has been supporting RDK operators in Europe and North America, while also pioneering efforts in EasyMesh, so we were in a unique position to assist with this key technical alignment and integration. Airties is fully committed to supporting the RDK community, and we’re proud to offer the kind of value-added capabilities atop RDK that today’s operators need to deliver an exceptional managed home Wi-Fi experience.”

The core functionality of the new RDK-B component contributed by Airties includes the following: onboarding of Wi-Fi EasyMesh agents on gateways/routers and extenders; setting up in-home backhaul connections; propagating fronthaul configuration changes; and collecting statistics periodically. A pending enhancement will expose configurations and device state via the common RDK message bus (RBus). The controller can support any certified Wi-Fi EasyMesh device. Broadband operators can then adopt and license advanced solutions, from Airties or others, to enable controller-initiated steering, cloud-based channel management, cloud-based diagnostics collection, and more.

Airties portfolio for broadband operators includes Airties Edge, smart Wi-Fi software for gateways; Airties Cloud, a cloud-based management platform and its companion app, Airties Vision; and Wi-Fi EasyMesh extenders. Airties was involved in the launch the world’s first ISP deployment of Wi-Fi EasyMesh and is currently working on similar Wi-Fi Easy Mesh deployments with multiple operators around the globe. Airties Cloud now actively manages more than 33 million homes and supports more than 646 million actively connected devices across the globe.
