Airties selected by Tier 1 operator for RDK-based deployment in 2019

Firmware upgrade will enable third-party gateways to improve in-home Wi-Fi performance and provide cloud-based performance management and analytics

ISTANBUL, Turkey – October 18, 2018 – In advance of the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo® and Broadband World Forum conferences next week, Airties, the most widely deployed provider of managed Wi-Fi Mesh solutions to global service providers, announced plans to make its managed Wi-Fi solution available for devices running the RDK software platform in Q1 2019. The company also disclosed that a Tier 1 operator expects to deploy Airties’ software on RDK-based CPE in the coming year.

We’ve seen significant interest in RDK from service providers around the globe in recent months.

Philippe Alcaras, CEO of Airties

“We’ve seen significant interest in RDK from service providers around the globe in recent months,” said Philippe Alcaras, CEO of Airties. “Operators want greater standardization and transparency, and RDK provides core technical functionality to make that easier. With this forthcoming integration, operators using RDK will easily be able to deploy Airties’ Managed Wi-Fi Mesh software on their broadband CPE, and it will be deployed by a Tier 1 operator in the near future. Today’s announcement further demonstrates our commitment to continuous product innovation, and providing operators with more options to help them get Wi-Fi under control.”

Airties is a recognized global leader for in-home Wi-Fi, and we are delighted that they have committed to making Airties’ Managed Wi-Fi Mesh software run on the RDK platform for service providers.

Steve Heeb, President and General Manager of RDK Management

“Airties is a recognized global leader for in-home Wi-Fi, and we are delighted that they have committed to making Airties’ Managed Wi-Fi Mesh software run on the RDK platform for service providers,” said Steve Heeb, President and General Manager of RDK Management. “Since the RDK is an open source software platform for the connected home, improving the home Wi-Fi experience through new applications and analytics is of paramount importance.”

RDK software resides on the chipsets within CPE, below the application and services layer, and enables video and broadband providers to standardize certain technical functionality. The open source software provides a common interface to SoCs, acting as a kind of universal SoC adapter. Specifically, the RDK software solution provides a common method to manage various broadband functions on gateways, such as home-networking interfaces, routing, device management, telemetry, and more.

Airties’ software solution will be deployed atop the RDK software layer. Airties’ software is portable across chipset and CPE vendors as a firmware update, enabling operators to better manage in-home Wi-Fi and make gateway Wi-Fi smarter. The software automatically “steers” consumers’ devices (laptops, tablets, smartphones, game systems, smart home devices, etc.) to the best available channel and band (2.4GHz and 5GHz), based on real-time network conditions in a home. It also includes access to Airties’ Remote Manager, a cloud-based Wi-Fi optimization software suite that provides real-time and historical performance data and analytics to proactively manage the consumer in-home Wi-Fi experience. Notably, operators can experience these benefits on a single gateway deployment, or in homes with Wi-Fi Mesh extenders.

Airties enables service providers with solutions to fix their subscribers’ in-home Wi-Fi issues and create premium Wi-Fi services. More than 25 million homes are powered by Airties’ technologies across more than 50 service providers across 4 different continents. With Airties, service providers can seize new opportunities to improve customer satisfaction, drive incremental revenue, and differentiate with new classes of premium Wi-Fi services.

At the upcoming SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in Atlanta from October 22-25, Airties will be demonstrating its Managed Wi-Fi Solution, Mesh Extenders, and Mesh enabled set-top boxes on the show floor in booth 2130. At the Broadband World Forum in Berlin from October 23-25, Airties will be at stand D109. Additional information about Airties is available at www.Airties.com. Approximately 500,000 homes and business currently connect to Get’s fibre-based network, and more than 1 million private and business customers rely on Get’s services on a daily basis. Get customers have access to one of the country’s fastest broadband networks, among Norway’s largest selection of digital TV channels and a separate film store with more than 6,000 rental titles. Get’s broadband customers can also view TV channels on tablets and smartphones, and also remotely control their Get PVR using the TV app. The company recently introduced WIFIX, a whole-home Wi-Fi solution pioneered by Airties.

Unlike traditional Wi-Fi, which relies on a single Wi-Fi Access Point (AP) on a home gateway/router, Get offers multiple Mesh Extenders from Airties to create an intelligent Wi-Fi Mesh network throughout subscribers’ homes to deliver fast and consistent, whole-home Internet coverage. Airties’ elegant and compact Air 4920s use Airties’ Mesh Software, which automatically “steers” consumers’ devices (laptops, tablets, smartphones, game systems, smart home devices, etc.) to the best available access point, channel, and band (2.4GHz and 5GHz), based on real-time network conditions in a home. Get also relies on Airties’ Remote Manager, a cloud-based Wi-Fi optimization software suite that provides key in-home Wi-Fi performance data and analytics to improve the consumer experience. Get customers can sign up for a monthly subscription for WIFIX, which includes three Mesh Extenders.

Our customers depend more than ever on the performance of their Wi-Fi networks, as the use of connected devices and video streaming continues to proliferate.

ISTANBUL & SINGAPORE – October 24, 2017Airties Wireless Networks, a leading international provider of premium in-home wireless systems and set-top box solutions, today announced at the Broadband World Forum 2017 in Istanbul that it has signed a new two-year contract to supply Singtel, Asia’s leading communications technology group, an ultra-fast whole-home Wi-Fi Mesh.

Unlike traditional Wi-Fi, which relies on a single Wi-Fi Access Point (AP) on a home gateways and routers, Singtel uses Airties’ multiple Mesh APs (extenders) to create an intelligent Wi-Fi network with faster connection speeds and a broader range of consistent, whole-home Internet coverage.

Under this new agreement, Airties will supply Singtel with its new Managed Mesh system which includes the recently announced Air 4930. These new 2.5Gbps Wi-Fi Mesh extenders are Airties’ fastest extenders to date. In addition, Airties’ Mesh Software ensures devices continually connect to the best available extender and frequency band (2.4GHz and 5GHz), based on real-time network usage. Singtel will also have access to Airties’ Remote Manager, a cloud-based performance management platform, which helps optimize in-home Wi-Fi for subscribers.

Singtel is widely-recognized for delivering innovative in-home experiences and superior broadband services to millions of subscribers.

Philippe Alcaras, CEO of Airties

“Singtel is widely-recognized for delivering innovative in-home experiences and superior broadband services to millions of subscribers,” said Philippe Alcaras, CEO of Airties. “We share a common vision that internet connections must not only be fast, but consistently fast throughout the subscribers’ homes – which requires a Managed Wi-Fi Mesh solution. We’re very honoured to be selected again to help Singtel serve the super-connected home of today, and tomorrow.”

A survey of 1,050 respondents, with multiple Wi-Fi users per home, commissioned by Airties and conducted by Qualtrics, found that seventy-eight percent (78%) of respondents would prefer if their Internet Service Providers provided them with their in-home Wi-Fi networking gear, versus purchasing it themselves. The survey also found that the majority of consumers would consider upgrading their Internet service plans, or paying extra, for a premium Wi-Fi experience that improves performance throughout the entire home.
