We attended the Wireless Global Congress EMEA 2021 – Wi-Fi: Powering Innovation Series hosted by Wireless Broadband Alliance on October 7!
On Thursday, October 7, Metin Taskin, CTO of Airties, shared his insights on ‘OpenRoaming paves the way for Wi-Fi/5G Offloading‘ during the Wireless Global Congress EMEA 2021 – Wi-Fi: Powering Innovation Series hosted by Wireless Broadband Alliance.
- Date: Thursday, October 7 – 4:15 PM CET
- Presentation: OpenRoaming paves the way for Wi-Fi/5G Offloading
- Description: This presentation by Metin Taskin, CTO of Airties, shared perspectives on how Wi-Fi 6 can be used to offload 5G cellular data traffic, based on Airties’ experience helping to launch the first trial with WBA OpenRoaming earlier this year. OpenRoaming is a major step forward for frictionless residential Wi-Fi access. For cellular service providers, it will facilitate more seamless and secure mobile offloading, aimed at reducing their network costs and enhancing Internet coverage for their subscribers. For consumers, it removes the hassle of entering login credentials as their devices roam securely between cellular and Wi-Fi networks.
This session discussed business cases and new market opportunities for Wi-Fi roaming and offloading. For example, it explored how there is unused capacity in home connections that can be utilized for mobile service, and how smart Wi-Fi management is necessary to ensure the QoE of the home user as well as provide seamless connectivity and user experience to the mobile subscriber.
Metin also talked about the practical co-existence of 5G and Wi-Fi 6 based on real-world experiences with many of the leading broadband service providers; and the growing interest from broadband operators to launch combined 5G/Wi-Fi 6 routers to be used for small businesses and residential services that deliver a managed Wi-Fi experience to consumers.
